Cycling: The Interaction Between Body and Bike

Cameron Elliott is an accredited service provider to the New South Wales Institute Of Sport as a physiotherapist, working with the state’s top 750 elite athletes, coaches and managers. Cameron works for Sydney Sports Medicine Centre where he treats all musculoskeletal injuries that result from sport, work or lifestyle activities. Cameron is an active member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association and Sports Medicine Australia, he currently holds the position of board member on the national board of directors for Sports Medicine Australia and is the President of the Australian Physiotherapy Association NSW Branch Council.

 

Presentation Summary

This talk gives you a more specific understanding of cycling and how the stresses placed on the body are unique due to the workings of the body on the push bike.

After watching this talk you will be able to tailor your assessment and treatment to this population in a revelant way and provide useful tips concerning on bike position for recreational riders and competitors. Cameron explains the specifics of how to fit your patients to their cycle in a way that satisfies the goals of being the most comfortable, most powerful or most aerodynamic position – or a reasonable compromise of all three.

You will learn how to identify the causative factors in bike fit that can result in common cycling injuries and how to address them. You will learn basics of how to identify when the problem is the bike or the rider and what useful stretches and tests exists to determine this
