Degenerative Disease: Improving Balance & Functional Mobility with Task-specific Training

This presentation will address how physical therapists can promote quality of life, independence, and safety in individuals with neurodegenerative diseases by encouraging activity and maximizing functional mobility.

Current evidence supporting the benefits of exercise in people with degenerative diseases will be discussed. A framework for physical therapy management of individuals across the stages of disease progression will be given.

The presentation’s primary focus will be on evidence-based assessments and interventions to improve balance and mobility and reduce fall risk.  Special considerations for exercise prescription and guidelines for exercise dosage will be given.
